MECC Meets IATA: Connecting Macau & Hengqin to the Future of Global Aviation and Logistics
On 8 July, MECC had the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Erik Chan, Area Manager Hong Kong and Macao, along with his team from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), for a highly insightful courtesy visit. Looking ahead, Macau is set to take centre stage in the global aviation industry this fall as it hosts two flagship events at the Galaxy International Convention Center (GICC) from 28–29 October: World Financial Symposium (WFS) World Passenger Symposium (WPS) During the meeting, Erik offered invaluable perspectives on the rapidly evolving aviation and cargo logistics landscape across Macau and Hengqin. With the Macau International Airport Hengqin Upstream Cargo Terminal infrastructure approaching completion next year, IATA expressed a strong commitment to leveraging its global expertise across airport infrastructure, integrated technologies, green finance, and international import and export standards. This presents a timely opportunity to help the region align with world-class benchmarks, and MECC is eager to work with IATA to boost local industry competitiveness, engage key stakeholders, and pave the way for future investment opportunities.

This premier combined symposia will bring together over 1,200 international decision makers from airlines, airports, financial institutions, and technology providers. Under the overarching theme of connecting retail, experience, and financial performance, the two-day symposia will focus on two central pillars: Modern Airline Retailing & Financial Transformation, which explores digital payment innovations, risk management, and the shift toward seamless Offers & Orders; and Elevating the Passenger Experience through digital identity, enhanced accessibility, and AI-driven customer journeys. Beyond strategic industry dialogue, the event offers a powerful platform for networking, forging partnerships, and showcasing Macau as a dynamic hub for international business and travel.
