MECC 12th Anniversary Reception 2025

We held our 12th Anniversary Reception on the evening of 28 November, bringing together representatives from government, diplomatic, business and cultural sectors to celebrate our ongoing efforts in advancing economic and trade ties between Europe and Macau.

Ms. Echo Chan, newly elected Chairman of the MECC Board of Directors for the 2025-2027 term, highlighted in her speech the contributions European enterprises have made to Macau's development over decades. She noted that, against the backdrop of the Belt and Road Initiative and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Macau is embracing new opportunities. The Chamber will continue to serve as a two-way bridge, assisting European businesses in exploring opportunities in Macau and the wider region, while supporting Mainland and Macau enterprises in entering the European market to achieve resource sharing and complementary strengths.

Mr. Harvey Rouse, Head of the Office of the European Union to Hong Kong and Macao, speaking as a Honorary Chairman of the MECC, emphasises that the EU remains a steadfast supporter of stability and openness, and is a key economic partner for Macau: as the third largest source of foreign direct investment and the second largest merchandise trading partner, accounting for 26% of Macau's total trade. He called on all stakeholders to work together to deepen EU-Macao cooperation.

Mr. Alexandre Leitão, Consul General of Portugal in Macau and Hong Kong, also speaking as a Honorary Chairman of the MECC, affirmed Macau's unique role as a platform for exchanges between China and Europe, expressing optimism about the prospects for European businesses in Macau's economic diversification and plans for regional integration.

The reception was honoured to have Mr. Tai Kin Ip, Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR Government, as the Guest of Honour. Representatives from the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Macau, the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Macau, the Macao SAR Government, the Guangdong-Macau Deep Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and consular corps of various countries also joined the occasion. More than 120 guests from various sectors attended, underscoring Macau's significant position as a gateway for European enterprises entering the Chinese market.
